Abstract

This paper describes the design and implementation of a software tool which implements the PSAMP protocol proposed by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), which is currently in a late draft-state. Using this software it is possible to set up a so-called 'Observation Point', which filters incoming packets from a local network connection using statistical or content-based criteria and which exports summaries about the network traffic using the IPFIX protocol. Special attention has been given to the requirements of high-speed networking, and to the extensibility and modularity of the whole project. It should be possible to replace or add new parts or filters relatively easy. The software described herein is part of the VERMONT software package.
