Abstract

Vehicular communication networks need to support the exchange of different types of messages using Vehicle-to-Anything (V2X) communication modes. Current generation vehicular network is mostly developed using the DSRC and IEEE802.11p standards. For the next generation vehicular networks, the 3GPP based LTE standard is considered as one of the key wireless networking technologies for the V2X communication systems. In this paper, two LTE-based vehicular networking algorithms are presented to support safety message transmissions. An advanced LTE Device-to-Device (D2D) cluster communication technique referred as LTE-DICV2V and a multicast power transmission control technique referred as CMTPC are proposed. Cooperative Awareness Message (CAM) packets which demand higher reliability such as low delay and high packet delivery ratio. These proposed algorithms can offer such a desired high reliability in an LTE vehicular network. An OMNET++/SimuLTE/Veins/SUMO based simulation model is developed to analyze the performance of the proposed algorithms. Simulation results show that the LTE-DICV2V algorithms offer low intra- and inter-cluster CAM message transmission delays compared to a conventional cellular network-based cluster communication algorithm. The CMTPC algorithm offers a high packet delivery ratio that meets the requirements of CAM message transmissions.
