Abstract

This document is about the IPv6 protocol suite, which was originally called 'The Next Generation Internet Protocol'. First we have a general description of the elements of this new protocoll. Then the results from some tests with the TAHI conformity test suite, which was used to inspect the implementations of three Linux kernel versions and Windows XP from Microsoft are presented. It is shown, that it is a bit to early to switch to IPv6, because some of the tested implementations have sever problems, for example the whole DNS traffic uses IPv4 in Windows XP. Latest developments like MobileIP were only supported by some of the examined implementations. Linux is the only product, wich supports MobileIP with IPv6, and this only with kernel 2.4. Windows XP does not support MobileIP according to the RFC 3775, the only available implementation is for IPv4.
