Abstract

Lots of different technologies like WLAN, Bluetooth or sensor nodes use for their communication the 2.4 GHz ISM band. All these technologies compete for channel access and thus interfere with each other. This might reduce performance significantly, therefore the Computer and Communication Systems Group at the University of Innsbruck created an experimental platform which is able to detect the respective technologies by different algorithms. The recognition of the signals is done by a TelosB sensor node whereas the creation of the measurements is restricted. In this paper the creation of measurements shall be resolved or at least improved by different operations. For the execution of the measurement order two additional commands are added. The commands have the task to create an idle time and to create loops. One order will be created by using a string which contains multiple commands. A parser encodes the string into a hardware dependent format which will then be sent to the scanner via a communication interface. The scanner processes the commands and sends back the measured results to the computer. By applying different algorithms the computer uses the results to identify the different technologies. The evaluation shows that the commands for the idle time and for the loop have a deterministic behavior whereas at the measurement itself occurs a non deterministic behavior which is created by the radio module. At the end no deterministic behavior of the measurements could be achieved but a minor spread could be generated at the timing.
