Abstract

Wireless sensor networks are getting more popular with advanced miniaturisation and simultaneously increasing processing power. Expanding networks, a dynamically changing environment, and varying tasks make management of sensor networks more difficult and dynamic reprogramming necessary. In support of this process the use of a robot is appropriate. Thereby the communication is limited to local area, fewer resources are needed, the management is simplified and the security is enhanced. With the survey of available concepts of remote reprogramming, Deluge proved to be a basic model for the Reprog Unit. It's a plugin for the plugin manager Robrain, wich is running on the Robertino robot in the frame of the ROSES project. With this plugin, a function call transfers a previously compiled program image to a selected node, and reprograms the node. The node software will be a slightly modified Deluge program. The final Reprog Unit shows all desired attributes and remote reprogramming is working. For communication between Robertino and the sensor network, a TOSBase node is required. The image data can be transferred to single nodes reliably, and can reprogram the node. Each node can have an additional rescue image, which is loaded in case of a failed reprogram attempt.
