Abstract

The importance of the Internet to all aspects of our lives grows daily. In relation with the growth of the impact of the Internet to our lives the need for security mechanisms and monitoring tools increases as well. A requirement for these tools is that they work efficiently and reliable even during an attack. Such a monitoring tool is Vermont, an implementation of the IPFIX protocol, defined in the Request for Comment (RFC) 5101. In this thesis Vermont was subjected to a series of tests, during which a distributed Denial-of-Service attack was simulated. Vermont's performance was evaluated and measures for improvement were implemented. After the modifications, Vermont was again tested and the results compared to the findings of the preliminary evaluation.
