Abstract

The development of road traffic safety applications using wireless communication technology is currently one hot research topic. The evaluation of such applications is typically performed with simulation techniques. While state-of-the-art simulation frameworks present comprehensive ways to model realistic vehicle movements, they are supposed to be collision-free. Thus, modeling of dangerous driving behaviour that may induces traffic accidents is not intended. This fact makes the development and Veins, evaluation of safety applications that try to predict/prevent traffic accidents almost impossible.This work extends the simulation framework and enables the road traffic simulation to induce traffic accidents at intersections. The approach to cause traffic accidents allows the implementation of various driving behaviours. Two driving behaviours have been developed, tested and evaluated within two different road traffic scenarios. Results indicate not only that the systematic intervention to vehicles induces traffic accidents, but also that influenced vehicles can be controlled with different parameters.Although developed driving behaviours do not reflect realistic traffic accidents, this concept helps to integrate collision scenarios within the simulation framework Veins.
