Abstract
Respiration is a vital physiological process enabling gas exchange in the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. During inhalation, oxygen diffuses from the pulmonary alveoli into blood capillaries, while carbon dioxide diffuses from the blood into the alveoli during exhalation. Various factors, including metabolic demands, neurological control, and environmental conditions, influence the characteristics of human breath. Understanding these parameters is essential for advancing medical diagnostics, enhancing athletic performance, and improving patient monitoring in clinical settings. The field of molecular communication (MC) provides a novel approach to exploring human health by analyzing exhaled breath properties. MC involves the transmission of information through molecules and nanoparticles, offering a framework for medical diagnostics by detecting biomarkers and recognizing patterns in breath flow dynamics. MC can be categorized into natural and synthetic forms. Natural MC involves information exchange through chemical messengers, as seen in biological systems like the human endocrine system. Synthetic MC, on the other hand, focuses on creating artificial communication systems using chemical methods, inspired by natural biological communication. This work-in-progress study explores the analogy between natural MC in medical diagnostics of human health via exhaled breath and information flow in conventional communication system models. The work presents preliminary approaches and discusses potential future research directions and extensions.
