Abstract

Sensor networks become ever more heterogeneous and dynamic. Adaptive software management and dynamic reconfiguration of sensor nodes are the most important concepts in this field. In addition, sensor nodes must be able to be reprogrammed over a radio connection. As a component of profile-based reconfiguration of sensor nodes, communication aspects are discussed and implemented in this study. It covers two tasks: dynamic addressing, thereby sensor nodes are assigned with a (locally) unique address, and profile fetching from sensor nodes, which is realized with a light-weight RPC mechanism. Using these concepts, a mobile robot can know about the configuration of hardware and software of sensor nodes using their profile. Based on the dynamic addressing and the RPC, a certain sensor node can be further reconfigured and reprogrammiert by robot.
